New Year, New Beginnings

I am very excited about 2013 and the positive things that are happening in my life. I look at everything that I do as an experience — to learn from and to grow from. Somethings work out as we hope; others do not. Live and learn.

Looking forward to exciting and travel-filled days/months ahead.

One moment in time.

I was very sad when I heard the news of Whitney Houston’s death on Saturday. I have fond memories of her songs and one in particular was a true inspiration to me. That song is One Moment in Time. I aspired to be a world-class runner myself and love watching the Summer Olympics including the 1988 games. I never achieved my own Olympic goal but ran my heart out nonetheless. I listened to this song before every big race in high school. Thanks Whitney for the positive impact you had on my life.

You are what you eat.

I believe what you eat is your choice. I have consciously stopped eating “things with feet” and only consume the occasional dairy ingredient or seafood dish. That said, it is very clear the world would be a better place if we all ate less animal products. This video does a good job of showing the benefits (health, environmental + animal well-being) of a diet rich in plant-based foods. Here’s to healthier eating in 2012 and beyond!

Think before you send.

What if we all paused each day and reflected on what we have to be thankful for? I bet it would be a lot. Being positive is a conscious choice. So before you send off that nasty email or post negatively online, think twice. Will it really benefit anyone? Or just make you feel better in that moment? The most impactful advice my brother ever gave me: the best letters are the ones you never send.

Doors…

“When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.” -Alexander Graham Bell

I must admit change is not always easy – especially when it is not the change you expect. That said, we can learn a lot about ourselves when change happens. Whether that is in the workplace or in our own lives. I’ve experienced a lot of change–good and bad–during the course of my life and in my career. My best advice is to embrace it. Listen more (speak less) and open your eyes. Just because one door closes does not mean many new opportunities will not present themselves. In fact, I’ve often found the new doors to be better and more fulfilling.

Fall – my favorite season.

There is just something about fall that I love. The air is crisp, the sun rises and sets and the leaves on trees start turning amazing shades of orange. It provides much inspiration for creativity. It is also a great time to start planning communications programs for the year ahead. The new year will be here before we know it…
